Marbella in Southern Spain is a wondrous city. It is home to
high-end boutique shops, golden beaches, outstanding restaurants, historically
significant buildings, beautiful public gardens, picturesque scenery and, of
course, luxury villas. To say Marbella has something for everyone is an
enormous understatement! Here is a selection of our favourite things to do in
this great city:
Explore the old town
Marbella is a magnet for tourists the world over in the
pursuit of more contemporary pleasures, and so it’s easy to forget that the
city boasts some of the most significant historical architecture in Europe. The
best place to enjoy this is of course the old town. The ancient city walls have
the same layout as they always have, and inside them there is so much to see.
The charming town square is surrounded by beautiful buildings, including the
Mayor’s house, the 15th century Chapel of Santiago and town hall. Both
Renaissance and Gothic styles adorn these buildings, which host numerous
important artefacts. Plenty of charming cafes and high-quality restaurants line
the narrow, cobbled streets of the old town – the perfect break from
exploring.
Go to the beach!
Everyone loves a golden sandy beach and Marbella
certainly does not disappoint. In keeping with Marbella as a whole, the miles
of sand here offer something for everyone. There are the centrally located and very
popular Venus and La Fontanilla beaches, or the quieter Nueva Andalucia beaches to the west of the city. Nagueles beach,
situated on Marbella’s famed ‘Golden Mile’, is known as a playground for the
rich and famous with all amenities from luxury yacht rentals to parasols available,
as well as exclusive restaurants such as Trocadero Playa. And then of course
there is Nikki beach. If you’re looking for champagne, world-famous DJs, firethrowers,
beach parties and so much more, this is the place for you….
Stroll around the parks and gardens
Beautiful
parks and gardens are dotted across Marbella, and are all refreshing oases of tranquillity
in a city known more for its razzmatazz. Constitution Park near the city centre
boasts an impressive range of vegetation including Jasmine flowers and Bourgainvillea,
as well as an amphitheatre, a classic example of Andalucian architecture. The
Alameda gardens are particularly charming, with their impressive water features,
tropical plants and stunning views – a favourite of the locals. Elsewhere you
can enjoy the grandeur and opulence of the King Fahad gardens, or practise your
wakeboarding in Medranas park's large lake, to the west of the city.
Shop, shop, shop!
Many come to Marbella in pursuit of perhaps the finest
shopping experience anywhere in Europe. Whether it’s jewellery or interior décor,
shoes or designer clothes, and everything in between, this is the place to treat
yourself. Avenida Ricardo Soriano in the city
centre and Puerto Banús are the most prestigious shopping areas, as is
indeed the old town. Enjoy!
