Corfu for your next holiday?

Corfu for your next holiday?

Located in the Ionian sea off the north west of Greece, this is an island with a heritage and culture built upon Venetian, French and British occupancy. It’s a fantastic destination, with a whole host of fun activities on offer, here is our pick of the best.

Corfu town

…is also the capital of Corfu, you would be forgiven for thinking you are in an Italian town due to the Venetian influence (with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets). It is also a UNESCO world heritage site with a lively town square or Spianada, which is the hub of life in the city and home to chic restaurants and bistros.

Paleokastritsa

...is widely seen as one of the most beautiful villages in Greece as well as a great spot for water sports with its many beaches (plus Alipo port with speedboats for hire). For a quiet moment, head to the 12th century monastery of Theotokos with its ceiling carving of the tree of life.

Kassiopi

....is a resort on the northeast side of the island, which gets busy in the summer. Its also a great place if you are looking for a bit of nightlife with bars, restaurants and clubs aplenty. For a relaxing afternoon, why not visit Kassiopi castle, although a ruin, this was once a Byzantine fortress of defence and you can enjoy great views of the bay.

Aqualand Corfu

…is a great stop off if you have kids in tow! This is a huge water park, fill your boots (literally if you wish) with water based fun such as lazy rivers, slides and try to swim in all 15 pools on offer. For real thrills, try the spiralling Hydrotube or the Free Fall Plus which has a 24m vertical drop!

Mount Pantokrator

…is approximately 3000 feet tall, this is the tallest mountain on the island and a great vantage point to see all of Corfu and on a clear day even as far as Albania and Italy. It’s a bit of a hike to get to the top, but there is a café awaiting and several tavernas; well worth it not only for the view but a spot of traditional cuisine to fortify yourself before the slightly quicker walk back down.
